Food and People

I didnt updated my blog for one week aldy. Been too busy with assignments and presentation. And I had tried a lot of food and taken a lot of pictures within one week. So I went to Muar last weekend mainly because of the bak zhang. I cannot deny that home-made bak zhang is still the best. And besides eating bak zhang, I had gathered with some friends and relatives. And during gathering, I had my first ever Secret Recipe! The cake is scrumptious but I still cannot overcome my phobia of cheese. I had inherited this weird trait from my mum. Here are the pictures taken:

Chocolate is my favoruite afterall. This is chocolate indulgence.

Shi Hwee's classic cheese cake.

Kai Xin'x tiramisu.

Me and Shi Hwee.

Bak Zhang!

Ended Finally

The night before calculus presentation

Finally I had finished my calculus presentation. One week of preparation had strained my energy and spirit. Running around the campus to ask for solution and advice was not an easy task. The process of copying and pasting the mathematical equations to the power point was neither an easy task. And yesterday we spent the whole night editing the final draft and preparing the speech.

After one torturous week, the war ended finally and there is no more presentation for this semester. Our hard work had been paid when Mr Koong announced us to be the best group among the four for today presentation. He did give some comments for the group as a whole and for individual performance as well. Now, I know what to emphasize and take note for future presentations. Experience is priceless, precious, memorable and whatever not.

And one more good news today: All the test dates for test 1 had been changed. So I will have three test on different days. But still all the tests will be held in the same week. It is going to be a tough week, I know.

:(

Omg omg omg I am going to die on 10th June.
Have to sit for three tests withing one day from 8am to 6pm.
I am not superwoman la!
How am I going to cope with it?
Dont be cruel to me, plz!

We tried to negotiate the test date with Prof Palsan, but he rejected our request:(
He said we can only change the date if we can get full agreement from the other classmates.
I am destined to cope with three tests on that day.
Nothing can change the fact aldy.
Sigh

What A Day

What a frustrated day! The first calculus lab had driven me mad totally. By the time I tried to open the file for assignment one, the virus detection signal appeared on the screen omg. So i spent some time to delete it and tried to  open the file again. All the efforts made were futile and I tried to copy the file from Shi Ying and saved it in another pendrive. So the process took around 5minutes and I couldnt catch up with Mr Koong. He typed all the weird symbols in the notepad and I tried to figure all those symbols on the keyboard. The symbols know me but I seldom interact with them sigh.Feel so sorry for giving trouble to Shi Ying and Kah Yee :(
And the worst thing was I sat at the furthest row from the LCD screen. So i had to turn my head around, looked at the symbols and typed it. "How are the three girls there?"Ya, Mr Koong kept asking us about our progress and I should labelled myself as a tortoise. I cant imagine how am i going to deal with the subject Computer Science in the future. I am a computer idiot la.

After suffering for two hours, I was tortured again at the Statistic Lab. I turned my head for endless time to look at the LCD screen. The structure and arrangement of the lab are not good enough. I am going to suffer again if I were late for the coming weeks.

I am so tired now after having 8hours of class marathon. The eyelids are too heavy to open fully and my head kept spinning around. Gudness me. And I had just deleted 27viruses inside my pendrive. It is all because of printing shop's fault. Just because I wana print the report, my pendrive get infected and fell sick heavily. After some medication, it is back to normal again. I shouldnt print any material at the printing shop near dining hall again. It's so scary!

Sunday, May 17, 2009

It's Sunday again.

Boredom brought me to MidValley, a decent place with foods and nice stuffs.
So what had happened in KTM?As usual, I observed people around and found one guy read the book named "Laughter is the Best Medicine". I wonder why he didnt laugh when reading that books. Izit because the jokes are not funny enough?Anyway, observing people is actually one of my hobbies because I can see all types of people with different styles.

We aimed for food mainly because the craving for scrumptious food is so strong that it is hard to eliminate it. Aimed for new costume also but severe budget constraint had imposed a control on our shopping spree. So roomie had entered MNG for three times but ended up buying nothing there. She is kind of frustrated since she couldnt buy her desired shirt though she had withdrawn money. I know she is trying very hard to save money. And I am not exempted from this financial crisis.  Allowance is not enough for us to indulge in other entertainment too. No KTV, no movie.

We had our lunch at Teppanayaki. The food was not up to my expectation and I wondered why there were a long queue outside the shop. The chef poured a lot of pepper into the bean sprout until the guy sat beside Kah Yee sneezed. And it was so spicy that I was forced to break the routine of NOT drinking water during meal. So we kept complaining along our way to the toilet. An embarrassing incident took place unconsciously: we went into the men's washroom omg. It was so awkward when people around thew their eyesights on us and a girl even laughed at us. OMG OMG OMG. I feel like slapping that girl but it was my fault afterall. What a stupid mistake I had done. Lesson that I learnt today:Dont complain too much!

We went to The Garden as well. Window shopping was the only activity that we could carry out there. We had our lunch at Manhattan Fish. We ordered one set of meal only because I knew the serving would be big and I definitely couldnt finish it. Out of my expectation, we were not full enough and the kindest girl in this world, who is none other than my roomie aka Kah Yee treated me to San Francisco Coffee. It was so ashamed of me for not keeping the promise of treating her to Secret Recipe. Well I will fulfill the promise as soon as possible.

Some default pictures taken:

Teppanayaki. The bean sprout sucks.

Manhattan Fish. This one is much better than the previous one.

San Francisco Coffee. Thx Kah Yee for such a nice drink.

By the time we went back, the train sopilt and we had to wait for more than half an hour at Midvalley KTM station. Finally, the train came and guess what happened? There were so many people and everyone tried to squeeze into the train compartment. The worker had to open door of the compartment to let some fresh oxygen enters. What a dangerous attempt. Halfway our journey, the air-con spoilt again and I could hardly breathe. The air was stinky and headache was intruding me. What a day?!

Random post

I should go back this weekend. Life here is quite boring and how I wish I am watching movie and yam cha-ing now. I thought life would be today plain today, but a severe flu has added spices to the drab life. As usual, I used up a lot of tissue paper and drank a lot of water also. Sneeze followed by sneeze and I am getting tired of it. I still have to suffer for a few more hours before having sweet dreams.

I just talked on phone with mum a few hours ago. She scolded me for hanging around until I suffered from flu."It is so hot. Dont play around too much. And drink more water". I just said "yes yes yes.I know aldy."Plain water is not as tasty as hundred plus and hostel life is not as interesting as outing life. Am I able to heed her advice?I am not sure either.

端午节 is around the corner and mum is going to "bao ba zhang". By the time I go back to Muar tis coming Friday, hot and delicious "zhang" will appear in front of my eyes.I am looking forward to that moment.

100

Another outing to Seremban huhu!
This time I went there mainly for movie, not for GreenBox. Since there were five of us, we tried to ask the taxi drivers whether they can fetch five people or not. Some refused while some agreed to fetch with a surcharge of 5bucks. Left with limited choices of transportation, we decided to board the taxi with an extra 5bucks in order to save time and energy.

We took our lunch at the cafe named "Cooling point". The serving was big enough to satisfy my huge appetite and the price is cheaper compared to other shops. I couldnt indulge in any luxurious meal because of budget constraint. No sushi, no secret recipe.

The fish chip.

First and Last Try

A night without internet connection again!

There was a fire drill and we were asked to gather at the open area near dining hall. The firefighters showed us the way to extinguish the fire and several students volunteered themselves to demonstrate the process of extinguishing fire. We also witnessed how air pollution is intensified with this type of practice.

Before the fire drill, we had our dinner at the newly open shop named Young United Yong Tau Hu. There were only two customers inside the shop and we took quite a long time (from Tuesday to Wednesday) to step into that shop.

For me, 80cents per piece of yong tau hu is quite expensive because I can get it at 60cents only in Muar. But the uncle who sells bread said it is considered cheap to dine there compared to KL’s price. Thus, we decided to try it and I am sure that would be the first & last time we take our dinner there. The food is nice and the ambience is there. The price is reasonable but the serving is too small for us to become energetic again hehe. I felt like I had eaten nothing after I finished the meal and I need to cram myself with a big cup of drink.

See carefully. It's not the sky. It is not a wall either. It is a 3D scenery in front of the wall.

The dumplings.

The egg rolls.

This was definitely not the end of the story for an edacious person like me. I was still hungry and I ate 4pieces of fruits and a few corn flakes within one night. I start to salute my ability to eat at some point of life. It is so hard to resist the temptation of food especially when I am very hungry though the food is fattening. Undoubtedly, I cant work when I am hungry too. So it is normal to indulge in binge eating once a time.

Funny =)

Update update update!Lack of time to update.
Hmm...Finally I found out one class in which I can laugh as loudly as I wish. This class is none other than the Chemistry Lab class under Mr Ooi. He is kind of promoting freewill in the class by allowing the usage of Cantonese language among the students.I started to collect some of his quotes:

"Fai Fai Fai! finish the experiment earlier.I want to go back earlier."
"Swey Zai ah...zhong hmm fai di (sthg like better increase ur speed)."

"Gam chok. Hmm hai gam chok geh (swirl the solution in this way)"-It is because I swirled the solution in the conical flask in the wrong way omg.
"Ask one dog to weigh the vitamin tablet. And ask one dog of each group to read the manual."
"Dont follow the manual. We are not animals!"
"Use your CPU"-pointing towards his brain.

We can speak Cantonese and English to him but not Mandarin. Besides this, I learnt to ESTIMATE but not to measure the volume of water. I always thought that accuracy is very important in experiment. However, speed is more important than accuracy in his class.
He has definitely lighten up my mundane study life. I am looking forward to the next experiment.

Happy Mother's Day

Mum, me and Sis.

Me: Ma, Happy Mother's Day ah!
Mum: Thank you. Any present for me?
Me: No la. I dun have income, how to buy present?
Mum:What about a card?
Me:I'm not young anymore. So i didnt design a card for u.
.

This was the way I greeted my mum just now. Once again, Happy Mother's Day, Mum
I had been stubborn and naughty for so many years. Thank you for being patient and tolerant of my mischievous behaviors. I will change for the better and do forgive me for the mistakes that I had done. And I dont make a card for u because I always perceive that adult will just take a look and then throw it away. So verbal wish is more meaningful haha.

Happy Wesak and Mother's Day

Wow a day full of outing. Minus the sleeping time,I hardly spent more than 5hours at home today. Woke up as early as 7am, mum, sis, Jia Yie's family and I went to the temple to pray. Since we went there earlier, there were not many people there and the atmosphere was not the smoky as I experienced before this. I got some divine guidance there: I will go to a place that is far far away to study. Quite accurate right?haha. We had our free breakfast there which is much much much delicious than Inti's food.

Back from the temple, we had rest for one hour or more. Then, we went to another temple to 浴佛.Luckily, I was able to avoid the smoky atmosphere again. I still remember last time I used to "cry" in the temple due to the smoke from the joss stick. This time, there was no need for me to squeeze into the crowd to "bathe" the Buddha statue. Save time and tears.

Our next destination was Wetex Parade, the only decent mall in Muar. This time, I couldnt escape from the crowd, but still I was able to enjoy my trip because of the nice food. Sis targeted for cosmetic and skin products, while I aimed for food. She spent over hundred bucks for her things while I spent less than 10bucks to to get the most crispy waffle and the nicest drink. What a worthy investment to satisfy my craving for palatable food. Since Sis had just received her salary, she treated me to KFC. Although it is fast food again, I didnt reject the offer since it was FREE.Besides this, we had some hair cut at an newly opened saloon. Get a lot of tips on how to take good care of the hairs there. And it costed me 12bucks only for such a good service. As i always say, Muar is the place that you can purchase thing at the lowest price.

At night, we were invited to the buffet by the first temple that I mentioned just now. I couldnt eat much because my stomach was extremely full. So i ate some desserts like pudding and some delicate pastry. Reached home at about ten.

What a tiring but enjoyable outing. Trying to read a few pages of book, but the it was so hard to resist the sleepiness.ZZZzzz....Happy Wesak and Mother's Day.

Back Am I

Finally Im'm back to Muar. As usual, the journey back was an tiring one mainly because of the inconvenient public transport. And this time it was worse because Yuek Si and I had to sit at thee last row of the bus. The so-called double decker bus is not as comfortable as we expected. My attempt to sleep was failed, so I spent the time to watch some TV drama. Headache intruded upon and I tried to get a nap. Things became worse when both of us sprained our neck unfortunately. The people in front slept soundly while we had to suffer at the back there.(same thing like people are sweet-ing while we are sweating haha). What an unfair treatment!I learnt my lesson today:board the bus earlier and tolerance does not pay off sometimes.

So before we boarded the bus, we had lunch at a Nyonya restaurant near the Terminal 2.The ambience was there but the food is not that nice as we anticipated. It didnt suit our tastes because the rice and ayam rendang were too dry. But, Kah Yee, I bet u will love that set lunch hihi. The restaurant is seriously lack of workers. It was like nobody wanted to take our order until Shi Ying had to waive her hands for several times to signal the waitress. I had used up my patience within one week after endless wait of public transport and not to forget during the enrolment.

Tomorrow is Wesak Day and I 'm going to wake up as early as seven to pray in the temple. And going to shop for Mother's Day gift in the afternoon. What a meaningful Saturday. Al least I am not trapped in Ulu Land wahaha.

Quote of Today

Owh Heatcount came out with another amusing translation. "Boys cannot eat soft rice ah."If i were in that class,I would laugh unceasingly to infinity. How I wish he is my calculus lecturer again and let me laugh as loudly as I want. Luckily, Mik Xin is under his class and she will be my source of jokes from Heartcount. The classes of this semester are really INSIPID because the lecturers are either too strict or serious. Even during Dr Borges's class, I still could laugh a bit. But for this semester, I am going to be a nerd in class. Am I taking the wrong subjects?Next time I should take the lecturer's humor into consideration when deciding on the subjects during enrolment. Three months without jokes and story telling from lecturers, can you imagine how boring will it be?OMG

People will come to appreciate things that they take for granted only when they have lost it. Now I understand the theory totally and I dont want to be the victim again. So maybe I should learn the art of appreciating starting from this moment onwards.

Patience

What to post today?OK short and precise wil do. Life is getting busier and I start to grow ennui of Inti foods. How I miss the home-made meals and cuisine from Muar!Feel like cooking porridge on my own but it's gonna to be a waste of time and I dont have any material at all. And "Duan Wu" Festival is coming very soon. After three more weeks, I can eat the delicious "ba zhang" and "ki zhang". Just be patient since good thing takes time. This May is going to be full of palatable food like the zhang mentioned above, tao sa pia bought by Sis from Penang and maybe cake from Secret Recipe (this one is free and i'm definitely looking forward to it).

Patience, patience, patience

Routine Again

Most of the classes had started today. The first class was Chemistry which is taught by a Malay lecturer and I would like to call him double P or PP. He is quite humorous (I meant good at cold jokes only) and has a much better command of English than i expected. His profile is extremely good with double degrees in Biochemistry and Microbiology, and two doctorates in Environmental engineering and Microchemistry. SALUTE. And just like Mr Koong, he can remember students' names within a short time. The lesson that i learn today:not to seat at the first row during his class.Otherwise, i have to make sure I prepare well before entering his class in order to answer his questions.

The second class was Calculus3. I still cannot get used and adjust myself to Mr Koong's teaching pace. He expected me to copy the solution on the board and listen to his lecture at the same time. And I was quite blur throughout the whole lecture and my brain was flooded with a lot of question marks at that time. But friends kept assuring me that he is not that bad as I think and I will get used to his pace very quickly. Hopefully I wont be so confused again for the next lesson.

The last class was Statistic which lasted for about half an hour. The lecturer was quite shocked when she saw me and asked why I came to her class for the second time. So after a simple explanation, I sat down and listened to the same lecture as yesterday's. But today we were asked to switch on the computer and glanced through the course structure. The computer was operating like a snail and my patience was being challenged at that particular moment.

And lastly, Happy Belated Birthday to Shi Ying. Hope the blueberry cake suits ur taste and forgive us for not planning a surprised party for u. Have a good year ahead and friendship forever.

Day 2

Nightmare had ended finally. Not going to talk a great deal about the enrolment.Just a few word to describe it here:slow and not efficient enough. What a waste of time to wake up early and wait aimlessly at MPH. And this tedious process is going to bug me for another two semester.

I had nothing to do now sien. It is the 1st of this semester and I am too lazy to indulge in any reading. Even the interesting story book"Twilight" could lull me to sleep. I am just too sluggish to exercise my brain. My brain has rusted for two weeks and I cant process people's words within a short time. So it is like I need a longer time to give an appropriate response. I seriously need time to adjust back to the previous productive life.

I am planning to go back this week since two major holidays fall on this weekend, which are Wesak Day and Mother's Day. So as a filial daughter, i am going to plan a celebration for my mum(hopefully it will turn out successfully) wahaha. Since I had changed the time slot for statistic, so it is like I can come back to Inti on Monday morning. But I have to take the risk of being late to class.I had been thinking too much these few days and my mind keeps rambling around uncontrollably. Just hope that all the plannings is more of actions rather than reflections.(ACTIONS vs REFLECTIONS...i love this quotation)

Ulu Land Day1

Another dreadful enrolment is going to start tomorrow. Hopefully there wont be much memorizing for this semester. I had spent four months to memorize the FANTASTIC sociological facts which I had forgotten partially now and I am not going to torture myself with historical facts for this semester. But what if I cannot enrol into other subject and I am forced to take US history?I cant let the nightmare takes place. Bless me...

Roomie had dyed her hair and I am looking forward to her new hairstyle. I am thinking of dying my hair too but mum just doesnt allow me to dye.Ok, I have to tell myself that black is nice and healthy. I have to remind myself that the hair coloring might contain carcinogenic substance. But sometimes, it is too hard for me to control the desire to dye my hair regardless of all the risks. I cant imagine what will happen after roomie comes back. Maybe I cant control the desire anymore and rush to dye my hair without mum's knowledge. Mum, u have to forgive me at that time.

Priceless Rewards

Two weeks of holiday is going to end very soon and I'm going back to ulu land within 24hours. Sobs...

It feels good to spend time together with family and gather around with friends. At least, I feel I am more like myself and basically can express anything without to consider much about other people's feeling. College is just like a small society. Can meet all types of people there:some are kind while the others are selfish, some are caring while the others are individualistic...Is it because we come from different hometowns with different backgrounds? I just think that Muarians are more friendly and generous...Is it because they look similar to me or I get used to their styles aldy?I am not particularly clear about that. I am just contend with my current life, in which old friends are always there to listen to me, and new friends are helpful and tolerant. I keep reminding myself that I have to learn the art of appreciating.

Times flies like arrow. Several friends are going to fly off and start their new journeys very soon. I am definitely going to miss the time we had together. I dare not to imagine the situation on the day they fly off. Will I smile like usual? Will I cry?I do not have the courage to think about that. Ket things go on naturally. Hopefully distance wont keep us apart and gap will never exist between us. Hopefully we are still as close as ever.

Looking at the bright side, Matriks friends are going to start their university life in KL. And it will be very convenient for us to meet up wahaha. Just a call and here we are at MidValley or Times Square...You all will light up my life more brightly.I am anticipating it. Just flipped through our secondary school SABGS magazine. It was kind of reminiscence and introspection in the sense that there were only a few pictures of our batch inside there. We had been left out by the commitee because they focused more on our juniors' batch.

I would say I had made use of this holiday to strengthen kinship and friendship. The sad thing is sis is going for a tour at Penang we could only meet up for two days only. I still have a lot of thing to share with her la. I wonder when will I come back to this small yet cosy hometown. It is like I hvnt settled a lot of things:hvnt claimed my SPM cert from school and tried all the nice food at Bentayan. Hpefully missions can be accomplished within a few more months.

The pic is blur but the gathering is vivid enough to enter my long-term memory
