Chinese New Year Celebration

Never in my wildest mind that the first three weeks of a new semester could be that busy. The progress of the 4subjects was fast enough and we had our Accounting Test 1 few days ago. After the test, the Chinese New Year atmosphere was getting intense attributed to the series of events organized by Chinese Cultural Society and STACT Club. There was a parade on Tuesday, BBQ night on Wednesday and Cultural Night which was the highlight of this new year celebration.

The parade was quite awesome with the lion dance and the new year’s songs which reminded us that new year is around the corner. Here are the pictures taken during parade.

The traditional Lion Dance by INTI students. The lions were not inept enough in movement but overall their performance was considered satisfying.

It was quite weird to see a Cai Shen Ye(God of Wealth) with spectacles. We received angpau from him but of course there was no money inside there. CCS had an extensive advertising program by putting the advertisement stuff inside the red packets.

The committee and participants of the parade in red shirts.

There were quite a lot of performances during BBQ night too.We joined the BBQ without paying a single cent while the others had to pay for the foods. The other four INOPE members were not in the mood to grill, so I just grilled two chicken wings which had caused me a lot of troubles. The scorching heat resulted in profuse sweating ishhh. Here are the pictures taken.

The captivated Diabolo performance by CCS members.

“Baby Force” performance by Dance Academy Club. This was a combination of new jazz, hip hop and break dance. I am looking forward to hip hop practice after CNY.

“Cross Talk” or “Shuang Huang” performance by CCS Debate Team Ah Tao and our Wuliaolism CEO, Jyo Lyn. The performance would be even more interesting if Jyo was the one who acted on the stage.

BBQ session
Here the highlight of the Chinese New Year celebration, the Cultural Night which was held on Thursday. The committee had put a lot of efforts in the decorations of the venue. Students with red shirts could be spotted everywhere and INOPE (except Justin) was one of those.

Since there were many stunning performances during the Cultural Night, the entrance fee of 5 bucks was quite worthy. However, the attendance rate was quite low because many students had gone back to their hometowns.
The entrance with creative decorations.

The paper cow didn’t look like a cow. It looked like a pig indeed.

Here is the Lion Dance again. But this time, the Lions were far inept in movement when they jumped from one pole to another.

The Chinese cultural dance

Chinese Orchestra.

POPPING or Robot Dance. As the name indicated, the dancers dances like a robot with stiff movements.

Gao Jing from China with her traditional musical instrument. She performed during the Olympic Dinner Night before this. What a talented girl.

Traditional Solar Drum performance.

The Dragon Dance. I wondered the committee’s intention to switch off the lights throughout the performance. It would be much mesmerizing to see the shiny dragon if the light was switched on.

Lastly, performance by Gan Wan Qian, the winner of 2006 Astro Talent Quest Competition.

It was quite thrilling and exciting to shout and cheer loudly for the performers. I took it as a way to release the cumulative pressure.

Heartcount's Joke

Ah shuiness is still revolving around me. Today I forgot to bring out my keys for umpteen times already. Luckily,as MikXin said, Inti had upgraded her Masterkey System. When I reported to the security guard, she contacted her head who arrived within 5minutes. And this times, the security guard tried 2keys only to open my room's door. Its efficiency has increased tremendously because the security guard tried at least 5keys to open the door last time. I still cannot rectify my forgetfulness. It takes time after all.

Language is important for communication. But sometimes language translation can create problem as well. A joke to share here:have u ever heard of a Chinese dish named "fo tiao qiang"(佛跳墙)?Well it is a dish of luxurious seafood. The attractive point is not with the ingredients of this dish. Our "heartcount" lecturer translated "fo tiao qiang" into "Buddha jumps over the wall". The two Americans students asked "Why Buddha is so desperate?" This is the problem of improper language translation.

Nothing Special

Wow the fee of latin dance is increased to 80bucks per month. They were sort like increasing 20bucks per day. From 40 to 60 n then finally 80bucks. Maybe I need to reconsider the type of dance that I want to join. Hip Hop?It sounds weird for me because my body movements are not flexible enough.Anyway I will consider it if there is really no other option.

Well today we had a joke's language translation during Sociology class. To let the students understand that a language links symbols with different emotions, Dr Borges shared a joke with us, with the help of a student as his Mandarin translator. The joke was like this: a duck walks into a restaurant. The waiter takes her order and serves the meals to the ducks. By the time the duck wants to pay, the waiter asks her whether she wants to use cash or cheque. The duck replies "You put on my bill". The "bill" here meant her beak or mouth. The joke itself in English version is quite lame already. And the joke in Mandarin version was worse because it couldnt bring out the humorous message at all. Another lame joke here: Do you know how to kill a blond? The easiet way is to put two knives at both side of the blonde's shoulder(with the knives pointing toward the neck). Then, ask the blond a question that confuses her. The blond will shake his head, saying"I dont know". By the time he shakes her head, he is killed immediately. Lame rite?To get a funnier version of the joke, I can demonstrate it.

After taking dinner, I had a serious stomach cramp which made me feel like dying. I thought by resting on a chair, I would feel better. But it didnt work at all and I was too weak to even raise my legs. Having endured the pain for one hour, I thought of panadol and got one from Mik Xin, who is just like a pharmacist with all types of medicine. The panodol was efficacious enough that it eliminated the unendurable pain within half an hour. Thx Mik Xin for saving me a night of painstaking torture.

Time to Dance

Woah Latin or New Jazz?Well this week is the curiccular exhibition week.As usual, the place(acording to Justin,it is called the SAO concourse)) is crowded and congested like hell again. Eveytime we came back from class, we had to sueeze through the crowd or to take another alternative route to avoid the crowd. This time I join Dance Academy Club for two purposes:to join Bally Dance and to get rid of the excessive fats inside the body. To my disappointment, they dont offer Belly Dance for this semester and the other options provided are new jazz, hip hop, yoga, latin, breaking and popping(sthg like Robot Dance which Jyo Lyn likes so much). The monthly fee of 40bucks is quite reasonable compared to last time. I vacillated between yoga and new jazz by the time I registered. At last I chose new jazz, believing that my sis is kind enough to teach me yoga the other time.

But Sujia who is well-known for her fickle mind is not satisfied with the decision done. I considered latin which is more useful for socializing purpose in the future. Jyo Lyn and Wui Yarn helped me to search for latin video at youtube. I was quite determined to join latin dance after watching all these videos. So after much deliberation, I went to ask about the details about the latin dance this afternoon.

Suprisingly, the fees for latin dance has been increased to 60bucks per month but it is still considered afforadable. The commitee will assign partner for novices if they have none. Wui Yarn and Fattchi will form a team aoughhhhhh(same pronounciation as "out"). The time slot which is 7 to 9pm on each Wednesday for latin dance is better compared to others'. It wont affect our preparations for monthly tests. But I am still hesitating now. I am too capricious to make a decision.

The Journey of New Semester

Today would be the third day of my 4th sem at Inti. The enrolment three days ago was disastrous and terrible one because we queued up for more than 3hrs just to know that some courses are full and we are forced to take some undesirable subjects. Because of this tedious adding and dropping process, I had skipped calculus class which had caused me a lot of troubles after this. The calculus lecturer, Mr Chan or we would like to call him "heart count" taught so fast that I could hardly catch up with his pace. He din give us time to copy down the notes that we had to jot down the examples given while listen attentively to his lecture. I just can adjust myself to his teaching style.

After much consideration, I dropped religion and public speaking, taking sociology as the replacement. Those who had taken sociology last sem strongly discourages us to take sociology because we would never get an A or even an A-. I dont know where I get the courage from until I am willing to take the risk of degrading my gpa for this sem. Well maybe they are right because sociology is not as interesting as psychology. And the lecturer, Dr Borges likes to continue his lecture without giving us a break that his lecture sometimes lulled me to sleep. It is quite bewildering to study together with 25 non-JPA students because they are not at the least shyness to give their opinions during the classes. The interaction between the lecturer and students is the only way to keep me awake in the afternoon class.

Macroeconomics and Accounting are considered manageable right until this moment but I am sure more hectic life is awaiting me in front there. The only class that I can talk and laugh unceasingly is none other than the MPW moral Education class. The lecturer himself created so much laughters with his weird pronunciation.Just name a few examples here: "rapist" was pronounced as "lappies" and "correct" was pronounced as "collect". The name of the lecturer itself is enough to leave a deep impression to us. His name is Chan Chai which he interpreted as "eating vegetables for every meal"(chan chan chi chai). And what a coincidence that he is a vegetarian. This is the funniest part of him. More laughters to come for the coming lessons.Just stay turn and see.

The only lesson similarity shared by all lecturers is they will like us to preview the lesson before we start the lecture. I have to get use to this habit no matter how reluctant I am. Haiz...

Summary of Holiday

Holiday is coming to an end very soon. I have neglected my blog for a long time until the number of entries can be counted using ten fingers. This holiday is still considered beneficial and meaningful compared to the one after SPM in which I had remained dormant for half a year. I am gonna to do a summary on the things that I had done throughout this holiday.

I had gathered with friends from secondary school for uncountable times. It is so good to get the latest news from friends after separating for several months. We talked about study life, future, movies, fashion and not forgetting gossip. Wetex Parade is still the only place that we can get a respite and do some shopping. After growing ennui of the dark ambiance and high expense of cafes, we had the largest gathering of 7 people at Lao Di Fang where the bright light is sparkling everywhere, the food is of a wide variety and of reasonable prices.

Another meaningful event would be a trip to Cameron Highland and Ipoh. I fulfilled the desire to witness the cascading waterfall for second time and to smell the scent of freshly plucked tea leaves at Cameron Highland. I tried a plenitude of sumptuous food at Ipoh until I suffered from the sore throat because of the curry mee. I realized how precious the life could be when I felt like drowning at Tambun Waterworld. My skin became even more swarthy after touring around under the scorching heat.

The most satisfying thing would be getting the driving license after six attempts. The miserable experience of waking up early in the morning just to go for car practice had came to an end finally. How much money and time I had wasted? I just know that I cant get the answer with the help of a calculator. Let the bygone be bygone. The process is not that important. People will only be interested at the result.

I had watched a lot of movies throughout this holiday. Just name a few of them here: James Bond, High School Musical 3, Quarantine, Bolt, The Coffin, Twilight and much more. The lesson that I get here is don’t spend money on horror movies. It was so disappointing to watch The Coffin and Quarantine when I could hardly sense the eerie atmosphere inside the dark Cineplex. And in the coming time, I will spend 2more bucks to watch movie at a cinema rather than buying the low-quality pirate DVD.

I touched the stove in my house’s kitchen after four months of hibernation. I cooked spaghetti, mushroom soup, rojak and fried rice on my own when mum was not around. I took a long time to prepare the ingredients until my sis was hungry to half death. I should increase my speed to prevent interminate wait. Next time I will learn how to bake a cake if there is any chance.

The only sport that I indulged in during this holiday is none other than bowling. My first experience of bowling would be the one at Ipoh Parade with INOPE(for ur concern here, INOPE=Ideal Number of People Eating) members. I got the opportunity to play bowling for second time at Muar Bowling Centre. The facilities there are not as good as the one at Ipoh Parade and there was a time in which we couldn’t continue our game when the “machine” stucked halfway. The mechanic had to repair the spoilt machine and we had to change to another platform. This didn’t affect our mood to seek for fun there. One more lesson here: Student card is much more important than IC. Remember to bring student card wherever you go because you can get a discount for most entertainments.

My diet plan had failed officially after consuming thousand tones of palatable foods at Muar. College life can put people on weight. The determination to slim down was there in November whereby I just consumed a bowl of soup for dinner. The result was quite satisfying and I was just like. The disaster came after Ipoh trip because

I had read two books which I borrowed from YuXin. One book is The Kidnapping Of Christina Lattimore which talks about the obstacles faced by Christina to prove her innocence when her family assume that Christina plan the whole kidnapping in order to get the ransom for her upcoming class trip to France. The other book is The Pact the love story. It talks about a teenager named Chris who is accused of murder crime. His girlfriend, Emily is the one who triggers the shot though Chris is holding the gun. Chris is found not guilty of murdering Emily, despite admitting to shooting her in a court of law.

Holiday WAS ending and new sem is starting today.Haiz...

Safari Christmas Trip

I should update this post on Christmas 25Dec 2008. But I only got the photo after one week and here am I, updating blog in my hostel after half day of cleaning.Five of us included Jia Yie's mum, Jia Yie and his brother, Jia Yue, my sis and I went to Safari of A famosa Resort.(note here:my mum is nanny and Jia Yie is the naughty boy that my mum takes care of). The only impression that the Safari gave me was none other than the flagrant smell of the animals, esp the elephant's.

We missed the parrot show so we just headed towards the elephant show. The two children were so excited to see the elephants kicked the balls and danced around.

My sis(dont make a mistake here. She is my elder sis but not my younger sis), the two naughty but adorable boys and me in front of several colorful parrots.

The elephant show with the humorous DJ. How could the workers train the elephant to kick the balls?Chaining behavior?

Grabbed the chance to shoot a picture with the gigantic elephant.

The sheep....too bad they never utter a sound...i just like the "meh-meh" sound so much.

The camel...the child thought it was an alien n hugged me so tightly.

The flamingo!!!

The only crocodile at Safari.Poor Safari.
The peacock.
The tigger which belongs to the family of Winnie The Pooh. And the naughty boy was wearing a pooh-t-shirt at that time. What a coincidence.

Took a boat to the Monkey Island. It is a must to wear safety jacket here. But it is a matter of choice when I went to Bukit Lang at Ipoh last time.

Muarians wont be surprised at the monkeys because Tanjung Emas Muar is the habitat for monkeys and watching monkeys' show is one of our recreations. This small monkey is nothing to us.

Jia Yie and Jia Yue(the shorter one) with the turkeys. Felt like slaughtering the turkeys for Christmas's feast.

Review of 2008

It is a bit late to write the review of 2008 now. I need some time to recall the events that had happened within one year.

2008 WAS quite a meaningful year to me because I changed my status from a secondary school student to worker for three months and then transformed to college student for 4months. I was exposed to people from different backgrounds who had changed my perspective towards this spectacular world.

Teaching at kindergarten was my first ever working experience. It was so delighted of me to see the adorable children to cavort and laugh around. Their cheerfulness and enthusiasm influenced me greatly that I anticipated the moments of mixing around with the kids. Knowing several humorous colleagues like Shi Hwee(who is my best friend), Patty and Irene made me reluctant to go home after working hours. After all it was a challenging task to deal with children of different tempers and I had to prepare emotionally because the children might bully me at any time. But I truly appreciated the chance to know how torturous the life of a teacher could be. I will miss the children as long as they still exist in my memory storage.

After working for two and half a month, I received my SPM result followed by a series of interview. The FELDA interview trained me to express myself clearly and to voice out bravely. Our group presentation received great accolade from the interviewers and all of us were selected to the second round. I didn’t turn out at second round and I knew even if I turn out on that day, I wont get the scholarship successfully because the competition was rigorous. This was the interview I satisfied the most. The Petronas interview was a disastrous one because I fell sick and even vomit while listening to the talk. But the 2day interview and camp was a amazing one because I get know to a lot of friends whom I really salute.

After all the interviews, I sat dormant for several one months until I received offer letter from Johor Matriculation. I went to Tangkak matric without further consideration because that was the only alternative that I could escape myself from being the victim of form6 student. It was of vital importance for the matric students to remain hardworking and disciplined in order to get 4flat. It was quite stressful to study there and I just think of going back every week. We formed a gang there and establish a society named PBSM (Persatuan Balik Setiap Minggu). Sound creative rite? The sweet experience of studying together in friends’ room and chatting until late at night made me to enjoy matric life slowly. It was at this time that I received offer letter from JPA and I left matric after three weeks of studying there.

I have to thank JPA for bringing me to Inti where I met several Samaritans there. Their existence helped me to overcome homesickness within such a short time than I expected. You guys are humorous, kind, helpful and whatever not. Thx to INOPE members for creating so much fun and at the same time THX u all for putting me on weight because of supper. Thx to my roommate, Kh Yee for tolerating me all the while and thx to Shi Ying and Mik Xin for creating so much laughters. Hope our friendship will last forever. Psychology was the subject that I hate the most at the beginning of the semester that I couldn’t find a way to deal with it. But now it had became one of the subject that I like the most just because of the last few chapters which talk a great deal about abnormal behavior. Special thanks to Miss Teoh for making me to adopt a serious attitude at English essay. Her courage and determination to conquer life in US really amazed me. Thank to Miss Penny, my TOEFL lecturer for helping me to promote Muar. Mr Nathan is the best Calculus lecturer at Inti with his lively teaching method. His lame joke and handsome look (for he is the Most Handsome Lecturer at inti) make people to attend his class. College life is really AMAZING.

I WAS crowned with Master of Shui-ness at the end of year 2008 due to a series of unfortunate event. Now it is year 2009 and I will find a new emperor of this great honor. Who will be the next victim? Hopefully nobody

One year had passed by and I am not longer a children. Being 18years old, it is the time in which teenagers explore their interest and move towards a brighter future. I hope I am bestowed with enthusiasm and courage to achieve my dream. And all the best to my beloved family and friends. Good luck in whatever undertaking and have a good year ahead in 2009. HAPPY NEW YEAR.
